Initially designed for the Durkan Student Design Competition, Sundar Shaadi is the product of my venture into the world of hospitality design with a focus on ballroom and pre-function carpeting. The design was inspired by the elaborate detailing within Indian architecture and wedding sarees. Sarees are the preferred garment for brides, traditionally having a red color with gold accents, which inspired my color palette. There is an addition of turquoise accents because it appears in Indian interior architecture. Both geometric and organic shapes can be found in India’s intricate designs. The pre-function room has an emphasis on organic shapes with geometric shapes faded within the background. As guests move into the ballroom there is a shift of focus from geometric shapes taking the center stage and organic shapes fading towards the background.
